Financial Statement Analysis Programme
Master the skills to read between the numbers. This six-month programme builds your ability to assess company health, spot patterns, and make informed decisions based on real financial data.
What You'll Actually Learn
We're not about memorising formulas. This programme teaches you how to pull apart financial statements and understand what companies are really saying through their numbers.
Foundation Phase (Weeks 1-8)
Start with the basics: balance sheets, income statements, cash flow. You'll work through real examples from South African companies, learning how different industries structure their financials and what to look for first.
Analysis Phase (Weeks 9-16)
Now things get interesting. We dig into ratio analysis, trend spotting, and comparative assessment. You'll analyse businesses across retail, manufacturing, and services — seeing how the same principles apply differently depending on the sector.
Application Phase (Weeks 17-24)
Put everything together with complex case studies. You'll write full assessment reports, present findings, and defend your conclusions. By the end, you'll approach any set of financial statements with confidence.
Gerhard Theron
Programme LeadSpent fifteen years working through company financials for investment analysis before moving into education. His approach: if you can't explain what a number means in plain language, you don't understand it yet.
How We Actually Teach This
Theory matters, but you'll spend most of your time working through real statements and building practical skills that transfer directly to professional work.
Real Documents
Every exercise uses actual financial statements from listed companies. You'll see what inconsistencies look like, how notes clarify main statements, and where important details hide.
Pattern Recognition
Through repeated exposure to different companies and industries, you'll develop an eye for what's normal and what deserves closer attention. This skill comes from practice, not textbooks.
Written Analysis
Understanding numbers is one thing. Explaining what they mean clearly and persuasively is another. You'll write analysis regularly and get detailed feedback on your communication.
From Participant Perspective
I came in thinking this would be mostly calculations. It wasn't. We spent more time discussing what the numbers revealed about business strategy and operational reality than we did on formulas. That shift in perspective was what made this programme valuable for me.
Next Intake: July 2026
